C@TCON 5

Technical Commission WG VI/2 will organise the fifth contest for Computer Assisted Teaching “C@TCON 5” at the ISPRS Congress, Beijing, China, on July, 9, 2008. The main objective of the contest is to promote the development and dissemination of effective, educational and user-friendly

·        multimedia tutorials,

·        simulations and virtual environments,

·        information packages or data sets, and

·        application software

designed and used specifically for computer assisted teaching (CAT) in photogrammetry, remote sensing or GIS.

In general, the CAT tutorial, software or data set is preferred to be non-commercial and provided to users without licence charges or other fees for not-for-profit use. Since many ISPRS attendees have been interested in this contest at three previous Congresses, this is a very good opportunity to show the effectiveness and utility of your CAT product.

Eligibility:

Anyone who will register for the ISPRS Congress has the right to nominate a CAT product to the contest. Entry to the contest is free of charge. Registered entries to the contest will be given five minutes to present their CAT tutorial, software or data set, followed by approximately two hours for demonstrations to attendees. Contestants are required to provide their own notebook to demonstrate the CAT product.

ISPRS Awards and Honours:

All the registered members of the Congress are requested to vote for the best CAT product on the basis of educational value, effectiveness and utility for users. The result of that vote has strong impact on the decision of the judging panel. The panel is composed of ISPRS Council members and Commission VI chairs and office bearers. The prizes supported by the ISPRS Foundation consist of a Gold Award (US$ 1,000), Silver Award (US$ 750), and Bronze Award (US$ 500) and a certificate of commendation.

Please note that previous prize winners may participate but will not be eligible for prizes unless the CAT product is significantly updated. Commercial products will be awarded a certificate of commendation only. Decisions of the judging panel on eligibility for prizes are final and no correspondence will be accepted.

Registration:

Please register with the organizing committee before May 15, 2008 and include following information:

1.      Contact information (name, organisation, address and email)

2.      The name of the CAT tutorial, software or data set

3.      A brief description (no more than 100 words) of the CAT product

4.      Information on how the software or data set can be obtained (web site or email)

5.      The cost, if any, of purchase and conditions of use.

If you have further questions please contact Christiane Katterfeld
