ISPRS WG VI/2
e-Learning, computer aided teaching, computer aided learning, multimedia delivery and the transformation of curriculum material for photogrammetry and remote sensing.
Current News
[April 2010] ISPRS Commission VI Mid-Term Symposium
The Commission VI Mid-Term Symposium "Cross-Border Education for Global Geo-information" will take place at ITC Enschede, The Netherlands, during June 2-4, 2010. For more information see the web site at www.itc.nl/isprscom6/symposium2010/
[July 2009] 2009 Joint Workshop WG VI/1 - VI/2
The ISPRS working groups VI/1-VI-2 held a workshop on ’E-learning tools, techniques and application’ together with the German 5th GIS-Ausbildungstagung 2009 (GIS education day) between the 17 and 19 June 2009 at GFZ (German Research Centre for Geoscience) in Potsdam, Germany. The GFZ, located in a lovely wooded area, on top of the Telegrafenberg provided an excellent and relaxed venue for such a workshop.
The workshop was attended by about 30 international participants and presented an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas, tools and developments around e-learning in the area of photogrammetry and remote sensing.
Different e-learning approaches and teaching tools were presented during the workshop, ranging from well-funded project like GITTA to smaller projects. The photogrammetry teachlets developed at TU Dresden showed an excellent example, how e-learning tools can be developed to support the teaching of photogrammetry.
A very interesting inside into developed e-learning tools and techniques offered the industrial application sessions. Companies, such as ESRI, Leica but also Trimble and Fugro have recently heavily invested into e-learning and have accordingly been able to develop several successful e-learning tools. The interest of such large companies in e-learning highlighted the growing importance of e-learning tools, techniques and applications.
The delegates were given the opportunity to find out more about the research and history of GFZ with a tour of the research centre. Additionally, an icebreaker BBQ allowed participants to discuss e-learning and teaching in an informal environment
The presentations are distributed on CD or are available for download at www.isprs.org/proceedings/XXXVIII/6-W7/index.html
[January 2009] 2009 Joint Workshop WG VI/1 - VI/2
The workshop "E-Learning Tools, Techniques and Applications" will take place in Potsdam, Germany, during June 17-19, 2009. For more information see the web site at www.igg.tu-berlin.de/ISPRS/workshop09
[September 2008] 2008 Capacity Building Workshop
From October 27 to November 4, 2008 the '2008 Capacity Building Workshop of Satellite Remote Sensing for Southeast Asian Scientists in Conjunction with SAKE Training Program' will take place at the Center for Space and Remote Sensing Research National Central University, Chung-Li, Taiwan.

[August 2008] CATCON 5
The CATCON5 was successfully organized on July 9th during the ISPRS Beijing congress 2008.
In total there were 10 contestants ranging from PC-based simulators to web-based tutorials to open source tools. One submission was subsequently withdrawn. Contestants each gave a 5 minute introduction as a brief presentation and then provided demonstrations of their product to the judges and congress participants during a two hour session. The contestants were ranked based on ease of use, sophistication and relevance to education and training.
The winners were announced at the closing ceremony in Beijing, and they were:
Gold (US$ 1000): Robert Kaden of TU Berlin for CityGML Silver ( US$ 750): Susham Biswas of IIT India for Limulator 2.0 Bronze (US$ 500): Ben Matthuis of ITC for GEONet Cast Toolbox
In addition, a Professional Gold Award was made to
Susanne Bleisch (FHNW Muttenz) and Joel Fisler (University of Zuerich) representing the eLesson Markup Language (eLML) developed in the Swiss Geographic Information Technology Training Alliance (GITTA) initiative.
A Special Commendation was given to Prof. Kohei Cho (Commission 6 President) from Tokai University for his GT-simulator.
Details of the prize winners and how to access their submissions are made available on the WG VI/2 CATCON 5 report web site.
[October 2007] CATCON 5
A Computer Assisted Teaching Contest CATCON5 will be organized on 9 July, 2008 by the ISPRS Technical Commission VI. The main objective of the contest is to promote the development and dissemination of effective, educational and user-friendly multimedia tutorials, simulations and virtual environments, information packages or data sets, application software for computer assisted teaching in photogrammetry, remote sensing or spatial information science.
Gold Award (US$ 1,000), Silver Award (US$ 700), and Bronze Award (US$ 500) will be given to the winners at the Closing Session. The CATCON Awards were supported by the ISPRS Foundation.
Find more details details at the CATCON5 website.
[January 2006] CATCON 4
ISPRS WG VI/2 will organise the fourth contest for Computer Assisted Teaching at the ISPRS Commission VI Symposium. CATCON4 will follow a similar format and offer the same prizes as previous CATCONs.
